Lack of transportation, a major problem

Sekolasitika Pela, a 23 years old villager from Saleimoa told the Village Voice that life in the village is peaceful.

However, she admitted that transportation is the main challenge they face every day.

“Transportation is the main problem we have here,” said Sekolasitika.

“The only time the buses come is in the morning and afternoon.

“But after that, no more buses come to the back here where most families are at. But there are a lot of families back here and it’s so hard for us.

“For example, if someone gets sick in the middle of the night, it’s so hard for the families back here to find a travel to the main road or hospital.

“The buses only come twice a day here. Just the morning and the afternoon and its not every day that the buses come here.

“It has been like this for some times now. So people and families struggle to walk in the sun to go to the main village or the main road. Even the children at school. That’s the main problem for us here.”

Other than that, the 23-year old expressed that life in the village is very easy.

“The people are used to working on their own lands and doing their own thing. We help each other and we work hard on our own lands.

“Life here in the village depends mostly on agriculture and plantations. We sell a lot of vegetables, crops and others for extra money for our families.

“For our family, both of my parents have jobs and we also have our plantation and vegetable garden to help us out with our needs.

“All in all, life here is easy and peaceful. I just wish that there were a lot of buses that can take a route back here every day and all the time to help us travel and make it easy for us.”
