Organic night market a hit

Walking towards the cluster of tents at the back pavilion of Taumeasina, the delicious food smells wafting through the air hit you before you have even arrived at your destination.

The Taumeasina Island Resort is hosting W.I.B.D.I.’s organic night market on their lawn and guests of the hotel as well as locals are browsing through what the local farmers have to offer.

There were tantalising dishes of taro in coconut cream, traditional fish soup, smoked fish and freshly baked pork just to name a few and all were freshly cooked and on display display making it very difficult for everyone to choose.

It made sense to buy one dish first and while consuming it…ponder on what your next food choice will be. Consciously eating under the canopy was where Dear Tourist met Australian George Boyce as he waited for his wife Shays to finish browsing through the markets. 

George’s wife is working in Samoa for the U.N.D.P. and he is enjoying his status as the holidaying spouse while Shayse is hard at work here in Samoa. 

He has been here for five weeks and he is enjoying going with the flow, George enjoys the laid back lifestyle loves the backdrop to their rental in Alafua commenting on how great it is to look out at the mountains everyday.

“I feel like a local,” George laughs, “ this organic night market is really nice, the weather’s a bit rough with the strong winds but never mind.”

Hosting the W.I.B.D.I. Organic night market is a first for Taumeasina Island Resort, who had more than enough space to accommodate such an event, not to mention the views were not bad. 

General manager, Nathan Bucknall tells Dear Tourist: “Taumeasina Island Resort sees the significance of working with local community, in particular the organic farmers. It is also very important that we get behind the promotion of our abundant organic produce available readily here in Samoa.” 

“It’s also a great opportunity for our guests to complete their Island experience by trying out our local traditional dishes.”

“Our organisation prides itself in being Pacific owned with a Papua New Guinea shareholder base and staffed with locals, it makes sense to engage with and be apart of the wider community in Samoa.”
