The strength of a woman

Mothers are not just life givers and peacemakers in families.

It is upon their advice and prayers where a family’s success is built.

Jacinta Taumoso, 63, of Matautu Falealili, believes women need to be reminded just how valuable they are in their families.

“Women are the reason why men exist in this world,” she said.

“Without women men would not enjoy living in this world.”

Jacinta says women make families successful.

“I’m not pointing this out to all families because we all have different stories but speaking from my experience and what I’m seeing in my village, it’s always the women who do everything.”

Jacinta’s main priority is taking care of her children and nurturing her grandchildren.

“I am unemployed but the work I do daily is to provide what I can afford to care for my family especially my grandchildren,” she said.

“It is what I’ve been doing when I first started having a family, I have nurtured my children and now I’m doing it to my grandchildren.”

“It has become a daily chore and I’m used to it. It comes naturally to me.”

Seeing her children and grandchildren grow is a job.

“It’s a joy as a mother and grandmother to do what I’m doing,” she said.

Asked about challenges in life, she said: “The cost of living is getting more expensive. I tell my children that they have to work hard and be educated to meet this challenge.”

“For now, as I am getting old, the only support I’m giving to my children is to pray for them and support them in any way I can.”
