Samoa gets pool of death for Hong Kong
If things were tough before for the Manu Samoa Sevens, it’s about to get a whole lot tougher at the Hong Kong Sevens with the pools finalised.
Samoa is in the pool of death, Pool A, with reigning Cathay Pacific/H.S.B.C. Hong Kong champion Fiji, New Zealand and Russia.
Fiji heads to the tournament with overall points of 101, second to South Africa, who is leading with 109 points, while New Zealand is on third spot with 92 points.
Kenya is in Pool B together with the Sydney Sevens champions, Australia, together with Spain and Canada. South Africa is set to join England, Scotland and South Korea in Pool C.
In Pool D, Las Vegas winner U.S.A. is up against Argentina, alongside the Welsh men and France.
The Hong Kong circuit will also host the annual series qualifier - a 12-team tournament which kicks-off on April 6th-7th. The winner of this tournament gets promoted to the World Series.
In Pool E, Japan a former Series core team will face Uganda, Chile and Georgia. Papua New Guinea, who recently competed on the World Series for two events as an invitational side, will face Germany, hosts Hong Kong and Zimbabwe in Pool F.
Ireland will play Uruguay, another team that recently competed in the World Series for two events, Jamaica and the Cook Islands in Pool G.
Manu Samoa Sevens sits on the 9th place in the overall points table with 42 points.
The Hong Kong Sevens tournament is scheduled for the 6th-8th of April, 2018.
