Die-hard American football fans in Samoa celebrated New England Patriots’ stunning Super Bowl victory in Apia yesterday and well into last night.

Tom Brady became the first quarterback to win five titles in history, rallying Patriots to come back from a 25-point deficit to defeat the Atlanta Falcons, 34-28, in the first overtime game in Super Bowl history.

The Super Bowl is without a doubt the greatest American sporting event. It’s a game that stops an entire nation.

Traditionally held on a Sunday, the event is a date on the calendar accompanied by buffalo wings, barbeque on the grill, refreshing drinks and of course great company to watch the game.

In Samoa yesterday, Americans were joined by Super Bowl fanatics for one of the greatest matches ever.

There were many places where one could catch the game.

Travellers Point at Malifa was one of the venues.

For Falcons Fan, Jonathan Yoshida, it was a day he had been waiting for.

He grew up watching American Football with his brothers and has become a sort of a tradition to tune into the Super Bowl every year.

Although American Football is not as popular in Samoa, there was a great turnout at Travellers Point of people keen to participate in the unofficial American holiday.

The Patriots are now the 51st Champions of the Super Bowl.
