Bank South Pacific backs Tornadoes

Bank South Pacific (B.S.P.) has secured the rights as Naming Sponsors for the Southern Tornadoes rugby franchise, with a total sponsorship of $30,000 - of cash and in-kind support.

The franchise is one of the teams in the Samoa Rugby Union’s Super Nine tournament.

Bank South Pacific’s commitment to growing better futures for the people of Samoa and the Pacific has been reinforced further with the decision to support one of the Super 9 rugby franchises. 

 The Southern Tornadoes represents the districts of Falealili and Siumu. 

With over 90% of its players unemployed youth, B.P.S’s sponsorship will enable their effective participation in the highly competitive national rugby tournament and pave the way for sport as an alternative career path. 

The ponsorship reinforces B.S.P’s commitment not only as the market leader in the South Pacific’s banking and financial sector, but as a committed partner in the community, with a focus on cultural and sporting activities. 

“B.S.P. is proud to sponsor the Southern Tornadoes to participate in the Super 9 tournament, especially since the tournament will lift the level of local grassroots rugby in Samoa,” said Taituuga Maryann Lameko-Vaai, Country Head, Bank South Pacific Samoa.

“But most importantly we are giving a little back to the community by supporting Samoa’s youth to develop their career in rugby. 

“B.S.P. wishes the Southern Tornadoes the best of luck for their first match this weekend, and we look forward to a national rugby tournament we can all enjoy over the next ten weeks.”

The Southern Tornadoes will kick-off their Bluesky Super 9 campaign today at the A.C.P. Marist Sports Grounds, Lotopa, at 10.30am (Under 20s) and 12.30pm (Seniors). 

Tickets are $2 for general admission and $30 tala for a “View from the Top and Bottomless Draft Taula”.
