Substantial increase in church offerings

The Samoa Methodist Church, which is holding its annual conference this week, has received a substantial increase in the offering from its congregation.

This was confirmed yesterday by the president of the Methodist Church, Reverend Apineru Lafai, as the church conference began yesterday.

“The total amount of the offering is $15,400,000 from both Samoa and overseas” he said.

“This is an increase of one million tala (as compared to previous years).

Reverend Apineru said that the conference this week will discuss issues pertaining to the development and strategic plans of the church.

“Our agenda depends on issues from each matagaluega and that’s how we decide on where to go (discuss) during the meeting.

“Whatever issues are accepted then we will take action. If they are rejected, that means they’re rejected.”

Yesterday, four subcommittees of the church looked into some of the issues before presentations during the annual conference today.

“Those are the guidelines of the meeting until the end (of this year’s conference).

“The conference is where all the authority of the church comes from.

The life of the church is based on the tradition and culture of the people and education at all levels is a priority.

“So for this year’s annual conference, more than a thousand participants including pastors will attend the conference.

The church maintains close relationships with Methodist churches in New Zealand, Tonga, Fiji, the USA, the Caribbean, and the Uniting Church in Australia.
