Anitelea chooses to work in search of happiness

I would rather struggle with the plantation than working hard in a job that makes me miserable.

So says 42-year-old Anitele’a Le’ana of Faleasi’u.

Anitele’a used to work as a security officer for quite a long time and he made the choice to stay when he felt he was suffering from the job and only earned a little.

“Nobody wants to work that way, nobody,” he said.

“I have spent so much time of my life working that I didn’t have time for other priorities of my life, like my family.

“It has been two years now since I’ve moved back to my own family because my marriage wasn’t working out and ever since, I just spent my time at the plantation.

“My job now is doing this for my parents because our family is just the three of us.

“I feel that my working life as a security is over, it’s not for me and plus my energy is not the same anymore.

“So I’m just trying to work on the lands, develop this plantation and see where it goes.

“For me, I remember when I started working, I didn’t have any more time for this kind of work but I should have because this is the work we all started from.

“So hopefully it will be a success so I can make some money out of it, for my parents and myself as well.

When Anitele’a was asked if he had any regrets about the decisions he had made about his working life, he said “I know I’ve made the right decision, well atleast the right decision for now.

“But I’m glad I did because I realize that I have been missing out on so much with my parents.

“Some of us become so addicted to work that we forget about what it really matters and I think I got to that point in my life anyways.

“But the life I have now with my parents, this is my chance to fix everything.”
