Re: New patrol boat to boost maritime security

These patrol boats are all well and good but the problem is the Australian government refuses to arm them with a proper cannon. 

What is the point of having a patrol boat without a cannon? 

Would Australia ever accept patrol boats without a proper gun? 

How does Samoa patrol rogue fishing vessels and drug smuggling vessels without proper armaments?

The real reason is because Australia have this arrogant and paternalistic view that the Pacific island governments will use the guns on their own citizens. 

It is quite a colonial era attitude and smacks of Australia viewing the pacific as full of “little children needing to be taught first-world values”.
