Sue from Sydney, Australia, is the proud grandmother of two beautiful grandchildren of Samoan and Fijian descent and doubling as both babysitter and cheerleader, she has come to Samoa to attend a wedding where her eight-year-old granddaughter will be dancing a siva Samoa.

Here with her two daughters and two grandchildren, Sue is excited to be back in Samoa having visited here before a couple of years earlier and she intends to make up for lost time in between babysitting duties and visiting in laws.

“I just love the whole countryside here and I’m looking forward to revisiting the markets. Last time I came here it was Easter and all the markets were shut so I didn’t get to see all that but this time I did.

“My eight-year-old granddaughter is in a wedding that is on today and she is going to be dancing in it, so I’m looking forward to seeing that. It’s really important for my granddaughter to come here often because this culture. One of the highlights here has been having the chance to visit with my granddaughters’ father’s family in their village.”

The last time Sue was here, she saw some of the devastation that the 2009 tsunami had on some of our natural resources and she was very happy to see some of the places had bounced back from the disaster.

“We went to To Sua swimming hole and it was really beautiful. They rebuilt that since the tsunami so it’s looking really good,” she said.

“I’ve been here twice but my daughters have been here many times. It’s a beautiful, it’s a lovely place – I love all the trees and all the plants.

The country side is all green and beautiful. I would definitely recommend Samoa as a destination especially for people to experience other cultures and languages.”

The family is staying at the Sheraton Aggie Greys where the wedding will take place and they are appreciating the luxury facilities at the iconic hotel.

Before the wedding, mother hen Sue and her chicks plan to spend their time relaxing by the pool before her granddaughter’s Siva Samoa debut at the family wedding.
