The staff of the Ministry of Justice and Courts Administration, including Judges and lawyers, gathered at Mulinu’u to commit 2018 to the Lord yesterday.

Those in attendance included the Chief Justice, His Honour Patu Tiava’asue Falefatu Sapolu, Cabinet Ministers and heads of government organizations.

Reverend Komisi Samuelu conducted the service.

He reminded all the staff and Judges that honesty and hard work go a long way.

“This is the beginning of a new year and therefore we must have new attitudes and new mindsets on how to conduct our work,” he said.

“Commit our work to God and He will guide us through our journey.

“Let God be the center of all that we do this year and commit our work to him.

“When you have tough days, remember to ask God for help and the strength to carry on.

“This year is a year of blessing for all of us.”

For Chief Justice Patu, he used the opportunity to acknowledge the government, especially Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sa’ilele Malielegaoi for funding the video links that are inside Supreme Courts 1 and 2.

“This initiative is of great help because then we now see a witness who is involved in a case through these video links, especially those who are residing in New Zealand,” he said.

“We will be able to see the witness giving evidence or testifying while the trial is on at the same time.”

He also urged the government to install video links inside the Land and Titles Court.

“As we all know almost everyone, including witnesses who are involved in Lands and Titles Court cases reside overseas.

“So having video links will be able to help the Lands and Titles Court conduct their cases rather than adjourn it because the witness or people involved in the cases are not on island.

“So I want to thank the Government for this great initiative.”

The work of the Court resumes on Monday.
