Band launches first anniversary album
Local band Ebur Band launched their first album to mark their one-year anniversary.
The formation of the band was the result of band member Faith Amiatu Sitivi’s vision to start a band. They originally began with four members and expanded to six.
They comprise vocalists Theresa Tavita Ulberg, Jimmy Tavita and Mathew Sam Ling, and the two pianists Divine Faith Amiatu Sitivi and Nick Ah Tong, and one master engineer Lealofi Misa.
Mathew came up with the name Ebur, which the name Rube spelt backwards and she is the youngest sister of Theresa and Jimmy, who passed away last year from Lupus disease.
According to one of the band vocalist Theresa, her 13-year-old sister was a big supporter and their tea girl, meaning she used to always make tea for them and was also their number judge during their rehearsals.
“It is true what they say about grief being like the ocean. It comes in waves, ebbing and flowing, sometimes the water is calm, and other times it is overwhelming.
“It was from our grief that gave us the will to learn how to swim in that ocean. She was a beautiful soul that can never be forgotten who was also an inspiration.
“The band was a vision that our parents Julia and Tavita Tavita made into a reality. The album took three months to create and it was created in Lalovaea where the main headquarters of the band is located,” Theresa said.
She said everyone contributed by writing their own original songs.
One of the pianists in the band, Divine Faith Amiatu Sitivi, said that they had their challenges but managed to come this far due to their passion in music.
“A great challenge for us is that we did not have enough resources which were needed to conduct recordings but we did not let this stop us. Our album has a selection of various songs meaning it has a variety of different audiences that it targets whether it is the older or the young generation. Our future goal is to continue our music and hopefully develop a higher level in terms of our music.”
The band is funded by various sponsors like Business Systems Limited, Father Petelo Une, Brother Sefo Une, parents, and families.
Family and friends of the band members donated $5000 to enable them to launch their CD and fund their music startup. When their first ever album was launched, one of their songs made it to third on the 89.1 radio station’s top 10 songs.
