More than 50 young writers from Savai’i and Upolu celebrated sweet success at the National University of Samoa on Monday.

The writers won prizes in the 2016 Samoa Observer Story competition sponsored by S.S.A.B., Eveni, the Chinese Embassy and Bluesky.

The competition was divided into two categories, Samoan and English, with the top three stories awarded prizes.

Winners were selected from Year 6 until Year 13. There was also an Open category, which allowed students from the National University of Samoa to enter.

Samoa Observer’s Editor in Chief, Gatoaitele Savea Sano Malifa delivered the Keynote Address.

The Judges were Professor Silafau Sina Va’ai, Papalii Momoe Malietoa von Reiche, Anne Leauga, Julie Perelini and Donna Ioane.

This year, there have been close to 600 entries and it is expected that this number will continue to grow in the years to come.
