As a parent we will do anything and everything to make sure our family and children are living a good life.

For some parents they don’t want their children to live the life that they had lived from when they were younger.

Meet Ioane Milo from the village of Satapuala he is a father of six children.

Mr. Milo works at night collecting up the trolleys at the International Airport at Faleolo but during the weekends and at night, he is a taxi driver.

When Village Voice caught up with Mr. Milo he was waiting for a passenger at the Faleolo International Airport.

The money he gets from being a taxi driver Mr. Milo said, depends on the flights.

“When one or two flights land at the same time then I’ll have one or two passengers on the night which is not much maybe $140 tala.

“And when flights land at different times then I know it will be a good night because I know I’ll be making a lot more that night.”

Mr. Milo said that all the earnings he makes go into his children’s education.

“I get paid $340 every fortnight from pushing trolleys and the money I make from my taxi helps take care of my family every day,” he said.

“I believe this is enough for us because my taxi has helped me and my family especially my children a lot.

“My first priority is my children’s education as all of them go to Primary School now so I have made sure they have everything that they need for their school.

“I don’t get enough rest because of my work but it’s my job to provide for my family and especially my children.

“In this life if we don’t work we won’t be able to get anywhere and our families will suffer and that’s why I am doing what I’m doing because I don’t want my family,  especially my children to suffer.”

So how is the life in the village?

“We have a very strict faigānu’u in our village and all is well there,” he said.

“We don’t have any problems in the village because the alii and faipule of Satapuala are looking after the village so everything is okay.”
