A 5-year-old child was struck by a taxi last Monday when he was crossing the road.

According to the Police Spokesperson, Su’a Muliaga Tiumalu, the 5-year-old had just got off a bus after school.

“The incident occurred at Tafagamanu, Lefaga,” he said.

“The 5-year-old was with other kids as they got out of the bus but he ran across the road when the taxi hit him.

“At the moment, the 46-year-old taxi driver will appear in court on the charges of negligent driving causing injury.”

An eye witness who wishes to stay anonymous, alleged that the driver was from the Lefaga Taxi Stand and he was speeding.

“He knew that there were children getting out of the bus so he should have slowed down but he didn’t,” said the eye witness.

“I’m sure the child thought there were no cars which was why he crossed the road but the taxi should have slowed down or stopped.

“The child looked to have some serious injuries to his head and he was taken to the hospital.”

The Sunday Samoan understands that the five year old was admitted to the Moto’otua Hospital due and he is in a coma.
