Japanese market boon for Ma’oi

Breaking into the Japanese market augurs well for local jam manufacturing company Ma'oi. 

Accessing Asia’s second largest market can be difficult, but the company has overcome that hurdle, with founder Cedric Holtz elated that his products can now be found on store shelves in Japan.

“It is a fantastic recognition to have Ma’oi fruit preserves in Japan. Japan is known for being a demanding market. 

Ma’oi fruit preserves on Japanese shelves proves that our Ma’oi fruit preserves are great on all accounts: food safety, taste, appearance...”, he told the Business team yesterday.

There is also demand for the products in Australia and New Zealand, but Cedric said he is still seeking an importer for the region’s two largest economies.

In Samoa the products are also available in various supermarkets. These include Farmer Joe, Lynn, Lucky Foodtown, Myna’s, Keil and Frankie. 

In addition to that, they can also be found in gift shops in town but also at the Taumeasina Island Resort, Tanoa Tusitala, Sheraton, Amoa Resort, Sinalei Reef Resort, Return to Paradise and the international terminal at Faleolo.

Ma’oi manufactures 40 different jams, marmalades, preserves, purees and chutneys made from local fruit. They are organically grown by villagers living on the south coast of Upolu, namely from the Poutasi and Saleilua villages. 

Cedric said their products are mainly made from coconut, banana, papaya, vi and breadfruit in the traditional way or with low or no-added sugar.

All the products are organic, vegan, fair trade, gluten-free, nut-free and are without additives nor colours, he added.
