Give priority to local businesses

Dear Editor,

I read the recent articles about the Samoa Business Network mission to Samoa supported by the Government of Samoa.

I managed to get along to the business day and hear from the speaker and companies from NZ, Australia and American Samoa.

It was good to hear of their success and business expansions, but I also question why the Government would support missions like this where the end outcome they have is to set up business in Samoa.

I would understand if they are businesses not already here but some of them are plumbing, civil engineering, accounting and business services, a clothing company - by them setting up in Samoa that takes away business from already established businesses, I know we would probably lose some clients to those new businesses.

I think the Government should support and look at helping Samoa companies and businesses before helping overseas Samoa businesses come back to take our business away.

Help us not kill us - faiaku ai fo’i.
