Wally sets new Bike sprints record

The start of every Warrior Race is foreshadowed by the Warrior Bike sprints in front of the Government Building.

The race closes down the seaside lane of Beach Road from the Town Clock to S.T.A Fales and also the road behind S.T.A.

The course is 600 meters long, and the formula is quite simple - Sprint for 20mins and see how many laps you can do.

The outcome is a free path for fast bikes late on Thursday afternoon.

The record prior to the race this weekend was 17 laps in 20 mins, or 10.2km. That was broken on Thursday night by Wally Collins.

He added two more laps to make it 19 in 20 mins and breaking his own record.

NZ women’s representative Angie Keen was second in the Sprints with 18 laps, 10 secs shy of lap number 19.

Warrior now moves to Lalomanu for the Half Ironman race today starting at 6.30am. The shorter and hotter Beat the Heat at 8am.
