Today, as we celebrate 55 years of our independence, we pause to remember the sacrifices and wisdom of our forebears in their vision and foresight” – P.M. Tuilaepa Sa’ilele Malielegaoi

Talofa lava and a very warm welcome to the commemoration of the 55th anniversary of the Independent State of Samoa.

We welcome especially our distinguished and esteemed guests who have travelled from abroad to our shores to celebrate together with us this special day. Thank you indeed for accepting our humble invitation.

To God be the glory for the great things He has done for Samoa.

We expressly acknowledge that without His divine leadership and spiritual intervention, Samoa would have never survived the torrents of global developmental challenges as a sovereign nation.

Today, as we celebrate 55 years of our independence, we pause to remember the sacrifices and wisdom of our forebears in their vision and foresight.

The continuing development of all sectors of the economy speaks volume to the effective planning and implementation of government projects through durable partnerships, despite multiple economic and financial challenges Samoa continues to contemplate to date.

In this connection of realizing our country’s aspirations, we would like to express our gratitude to governmental development partners including Australia, China, European Union, Japan, New Zealand, and the United States, as well as the key international organizations supporting our efforts including the World Bank, the Asian Development Bank, the International Monetary Fund and the United Nations Agencies.

In the same spirit, we sincerely acknowledge the assiduous contributions and memorable accomplishments of the public and private sectors, non-governmental organizations as well as our village communities in advancing our pursuit of excellence in social and economic development.

To all our distinguished and honoured guests who have travelled from near and far, we trust that your brief stay in Samoa will generate great memories of our hospitality, culture and our people.

May we all have a wonderful celebration. Soifua,
