Julien in Samoa to celebrate

Living young, wild and free is Julien Avia of Auckland New Zealand.

Dear Tourist yesterday learned that Julien’s in the country to celebrate his 21st birthday with his cousins.

He is in Samoa for a week.

And so far they have had a ball.

Julien visited Samoa in 2013 with his family. This time it is only him and his cousins and what better way to celebrate your 21st birthday than being in your homeland and visiting local nightclubs.

“The music here is really good,” he said.

“My sister paid for my airfare without my knowledge, so it was like her gift for me.

“The last time I was here was in 2013, and there have been some changes in Samoa in terms of development.”

When Dear Tourist met Julien, he was on his way to the S.T.A. with his cousin Edward Fa’alili, 20, to get his tattoo done.

“I already have a tattoo design in mind and it says ‘Family over everything’.  This will be my birthday present and souvenir when I get back home.”

Julien works at a construction company in New Zealand from Monday to Friday and as a securityguard at their local nightclubs over the weekend.

“I live with my mum and dad and I look after them.”

The friendly hospitality of the locals and the room service at the Tanoa Tusitala Hotel is definitely a delight for Julien.

“It’s just the heat that was unbearable when we got here on Saturday, but then you’re here for two days you kind of get used to it.”

It will be the usual routine for Julien when he returns home – working, but this time he is looking to save some money so he can return to Samoa for Christmas next year.

“I am not looking forward to going back, but I will definitely come back to my homeland.”
