The U17’s Soccer team is gathering speed and the main man leading the pack is Captain, Willie Sauilima.

The U-17’s Soccer team is gearing up to compete in the O.F.C Championship next month where they will face tough competition from strong sided teams from  New Zealand, Fiji and Solomon Islands.   Samoa must work to defeat them all to earn a placement and advance to the U17 World Cup.

Head Coach of the U17’s team, Desmond Fa’aiuaso, has appointed, sixteen year old, Willie Sauilima to lead the boys into battle.

The New Zealand born but Australian raised soccer player is ready to shoulder the heavy load.

When asked about his contributions to the team, the young man stated, “Its my knowledge,  capability  of leadership and strength.”

This young man first found his love for soccer at age five and hasn’t slowed since. He stated, “ Ever since I was 5, I’ve been playing.  It’s just a good going game and I’m loving the experience.  You get to meet a lot of other new people, make new friends and just feel comfortable.”

Many years later, Willie has perfected his craft with his soccer club, the Goulburn Valley Suns in Australia.

He hails from the villages of Salani and Poutasi and is happy to be in the land of his heritage.

He stated, “Its my third time being here.  They’ve all been good experiences here.

Travelling back to where my parents grew up has been a good experience to see what they had and what they’ve given me to be where I am now.”

This midfielder will definitely be one to watch on the pitch.
