One more senior woman lawyer is to become a Judge of the District Court.

She is Alalatoa Rosella Viane-Papali’i.

The appointment was confirmed by the Chief Executive Officer of the Ministry of Justice and Courts Administration (M.J.C.A.), Papali’i John Taimalelagi yesterday.

Papali’i said the decision was made by Samoa’s Judiciary Council which is Chaired by the Chief Justice, His Honour Patu Tiava’asu’e Falefatu Sapolu.

All that is remaining is the execution of the warrant by the Head of State, His Highness Tui Atua Tupua Tamasese Efi, who is in Tonga for the funeral of the Queen Mother.

In the meantime, Papali’i told the Samoa Observer yesterday that Alalatoa is scheduled to be sworn in on 31 March 2017.

Alalatoa will continue Samoa’s proud record of women lawyers rising to become Judges in recent years.

The new Judge will join Justice Mata Tuatagaloa, Justice Tafaoimalo Leilani Tuala-Warren and Judge Talasa Sa’aga on the bench.
