The Police are investigating the alleged theft of half a million from Yazaki Ed Samoa Limited at Vaitele.

The amount is alleged to have been misappropriated by a senior Accounts officer in March this year.

The Weekend Observer was told by a source that the officer was sacked following an internal investigation.

Contacted for a comment yesterday, Y.E.S General Manager, Funefeai Oliva Vaai declined to comment.

Funefeai said the matter has been referred to Police for a proper investigation and charges.

During a telephone interview with the Weekend Observer yesterday, Assistant Police Commissioner, Afamasaga Michael So'onalole, confirmed the incident.

He said the matter has been referred to the investigating unit of the Police and their investigation is continuing.

Asked about claims that the accused has left the country, Afamasaga said he was unaware of it. He asked to send questions through to his email so he could respond to them when he has more information. An email was sent to the Assistant Commissioner but he did not respond by press time last night.
