Team Samoa gets nation’s blessings

Team Samoa for the upcoming Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia, was hosted to a short farewell ceremony yesterday.

Held at the Prime Minister’s Office, P.M Tuilaepa Sa’ilele Malielegaoi, gave his blessings to the team before they departed.

Officials and athletes from Rugby 7’s, boxing and lawn bowling, together with Team Samoa Manager, Tuala Mathew Vaea, and Secretary General, Pauga Talalelei Pauga, were also present.

Prime Minister Tuilaepa reminded the team that the whole of Samoa is behind them.

 “There is nothing more important than supporting you with prayers as you guys will be taking on the battlefield there.”

“And while you guys are at this Games, do not forget the support of the people here in Samoa, they are praying.”

“I was going to be there for the opening ceremony of this year’s Commonwealth Games but because of my tight schedule, as I will be leaving soon for the Commonwealth Leader’s meeting, which will be held in Great Britain, I had to stay.”

Tuilaepa told the officials to be well aware of the athletes’ attitude during the Games because there will be temptations in the way, especially the relationship between all the athletes.

Prime Minister also reminded the officials to look after the athletes’ because the good reflection the team depends on them.

He also encouraged officials and athletes who are not new on representing Samoa on this level of competition to lead by example.

Following Tuilaepa’s remarks, Tuala gave a brief update and statement of the current status of the Team Samoa and a present to the Prime Minister, courtesy of the team.

Team Samoa Weightlifting has already touched down in Gold Coast, Australia. 

The Gold Coast Commonwealth Games is scheduled for April 4-15.
