Sunday accident at Vaitele

The driver of a taxi who swerved to avoid a car which was overtaking him, ended up in a water-filled ditch yesterday afternoon.

Road conditions at the time of the accident were wet and slippery on the main Vaitele road leading out to the airport.

“The taxi driver was careless,” claimed a witness.

“He shouldn’t have tried to avoid the vehicle that overtook him because that other vehicle was in the wrong, not him.

“I guess the taxi driver was scared that the overtaking vehicle would crash into his car but instead he lost control and went straight down into the ditch.”

The eyewitness wasn’t sure about the details of the other vehicle because he said it had happened so fast.

“Luckily nobody got hurt. It could have been worse but thank God that on the last Sunday of 2015, it didn’t end up in a worse way for the driver.”

The police were quickly at the scene but initial attempts by the driver and onlookers to get the car out of the ditch, were unsuccessful and the subsequent heavy rain added to the problems.

It was not possible to get a comment from the taxi driver.
