Faumuina accepts village decision

The village council of Sili has reconfirmed that the village ban against Faumuina Tiatia Liuga, is against his chiefly title Fa’aolatane.

Fiu Tinoifili, a representative of the village council of Sili, told the Samoa Observer that their decision was a result of the electoral challenge Faumuina filed against Le Tagaloa Pita.

Fiu said the paramount title holder in their village does not render a monotaga.

He said when Le Tagaloa visits their village every year he would spent $50,000.

Fiu said if you total up the amount of monotaga rendered by others, it would never reach the amount that Le Tagaloa gives to the village every year.

Faumuina has held the title of Fa’aolatane from Sili for three years, said Fiu.

The village council’s decision was taken last week to ban Faumuina and the mayor of the village who had filed the electoral challenge.

In response and prior to Election da  Faumuina, said he accepted the decision from the village.

“I am absolutely confident; the ban is not a major issue for me in the general election,” said Faumuina.

Claiming he is an active chief of Sili, Faumuina said the ban would give him the chance to concentrate on his re-election.
