Young family needs water help
It’s tough enough starting a family of your own.
But without basic utilities like water, the challenge becomes a taller mountain to climb.
Fetalaiga Moeaia from Fasito’o uta knows this. Speaking to the Village Voice, all she wants is a steady supply of clean drinking water.
The 23 year old is happily married with a baby boy who is just one month old.
Living on land that the government’s water supply doesn’t reach, they need help.
“We’ve been staying here a few months here. We have recently moved here from my husband’s family at Faleasiu,” she said to the Village Voice.
“My husband works but it’s not an every day job, it’s one of those jobs that calls in when they need something done so that’s why we are slow on the process of getting our own water tank.
“We are just starting over on our own and we are proud of being able to stand on our own two feet but one thing that’s pulling us down is having no water and we do get worry and scared sometimes because we have a baby here that needs to be fed.
“At the very back of this land; is where my mother stays with my other sisters and that’s where we fetch water from.
“But I feel bad all the time because my mother doesn’t have access to the government’s water as well, it’s her water tank that we all rely on and her water tank depends on the rain.
“And that’s why we need to have our own water tank so we could try our best to find our water from the inner village and store it in our own water tank and not having to depend on my mother because I know they need it as well.
“The situation now, is that there are too many people but water access has a limit.
“If the government’s water reaches here, maybe we would try our best to get the money to set up our own tap water but unfortunately that’s not the case.
“But I’m pretty sure along the road; most families have water tanks for water.
“I think that’s the only thing we need help with because honestly we are okay with our home; we are okay with everything that we have for now. Most of our basic needs are covered here except for water.”
