Police confirm three deaths at Tafua, Savai’i landslide
Three men died at Tafua Savai’i yesterday as a result of a landslide.
The deaths were confirmed by the Police in Savai’i this morning.
They are investigating what happened.
The Samoa Observer’s Chief Reporter is at Tafua Savai’i and has been told that the men work for a brick-making company from another village.
They were extracting soil from the side of the mountain when tragedy struck. It could not confirm immediately if that is what caused the landslide.
Five men were working at the site when the landslide occurred. Two are in critical condition at the Tuasivi hospital.
A villager, Eddie Lemaota, of Tafua, was among the men who were at the scene on Monday afternoon to assist in digging up the bodies.
A video of the incident has surfaced on Facebook which shows a digger being used to dig up one of the bodies.
More details coming soon.
