Digicel presents highest dividend
Digicel Samoa presented a dividend of $1,863,354 to their local shareholders yesterday.
Among them are C.S.L. Mobile, Samoa National Provident Fund (S.N.P.F.) and Samoa Life Assurance Corporation (S.L.A.C.).
S.N.P.F. was represented by their C.E.O, Pauli Prince Suhren while S.L.A.C. was represented by their C.E.O, Leiataua Alden Godinet.
Chairman of the Board of Digicel Samoa, Fiaailetoa Pepe Fruean, said this is the highest dividend payment made by Digicel Samoa Limited.
“Since 2012, we’ve been seeing you guys every year and up to today we would have been paying $10.4million to our shareholders,” he said.
“From Digicel’s point of view, the important part of this is to say that in 2006 when we came to Samoa, we were looking for a good partner and we were very fortunate that we met a very highly energetic organisation of passion, commitment not only to Samoa, but to ensuring that this company was well run consistent with our vision for Samoa."
“So today (yesterday) is a huge celebration for not only Digicel Samoa but also for our shareholders and the people who are members of the National Provident Fund."
“There are a huge number of people and we also thank them for their support through their contribution to N.P.F. and also for your support as customers.”
Pauli acknowledged the support from Digicel Samoa. He added this is a momentous occasion to celebrate another milestone in their long term relationship with Digicel.
“This year’s dividend of more than $1million is a testament to the hard work and dedication of chairman, board, management and most of all the staff of Digicel who have worked diligently to enable this dividend to be paid,” said Pauli.
“We as a shareholders of C.S.L. Mobile and Digicel, we have a lot of confidence in the company’s ability right from the start in 2006 up until 2018, they have always been about putting the people first and that aligns with the overarching objective of the Samoa National Provident Fund."
“We have a responsibility for more than 33,000 members and they have entrusted us with the knowledge and wisdom to be able to invest their funds where there is to be maximum returns."
“And having a look at the past, a total dividend of $10million has been paid to the shareholders and that speaks volumes in itself because it is an investment that is actually making a return for the funds contributed for the Funds members and everyone working in Samoa who is member of the N.P.F. and also for the members of the S.L.A.C."
“It is an investment we are looking forward to take into the future."
“This year’s dividend is much more significant than the previos year."
“This is enough as a message to say Digicel is going forward and it is continuing to meet the needs, standards and the expectations of us as the shareholders.”
He also stated the dividend given to them will also go back to the clients of S.L.A.C. and members of the N.P.F. to enable them to put together a dividend for the people come July.
“So when July comes this year, this fund will also help to contribute to whether it is seven, nine or 10 percent, I guess we will all see in July."
“So this partnership goes a long way to making a final number and it is a benefit for all of us.”
