Anchor, Ah Liki combine to ‘achieve greatness’

The smiles said it all. Yesterday the beautiful faces of primary school children around Upolu lit up as they saluted good health with Anchor milk and preparing to get creative with it too. 

Anchor Milk in association with Ah Liki Wholesale launched their Creative Arts Competition for Primary school students around Upolu and Savaii.

The theme is on “ Achieving Greatness”. 

According to Ah Liki Wholesale, Anchor also donated free milk for Year 1 and 2 students to be given out at the selected primary schools around the two islands and this is a first time that such a competition and donation has been done in Samoa. 

The Samoa Observer accompanied one of the Ah Liki marketing teams yesterday as they travelled all day around Upolu to reach selected schools in the back villages in an epic campaign to promote their suppliers’ message of health through the medium of art. 

On the way to the first school in Mulifanua, Anchor representative, Vaovasa Segi said the project is for the good of the kids. 

“We want to see how creative they are,” he said . 

“We had a promotion for colleges as well and that was about story writing. In this competition; you have to create something using the anchor cartons. We are trying to promote the product to everyone, not only to the shops but to the schools as well so that all the people know that the anchor milk is good food for kids.”

The creative art competition is unique in the sense that it steps away from the traditional expectation that art in most school competitions are more conceptual and two-dimensional. 

However in this competition, primary school children are expected to create physical or three-dimensional art out of the Anchor milk cartons. 

Because there is no wrong or right way to make art, children are encouraged to think creatively and to be innovative. 

Studies show that being exposed to art, children can improve their fine motor skills and problem solving skills by being able to think critically and analytically. 

The primary school children weren’t the only ones who were happy to receive the Anchor campaigners into their schools, Principals and staff members were thankful and supportive of Anchor’s campaign with Ah Liki Wholesale. 

Principal of Matautu Primary School, Masse Tupou, shared her thoughts on the benefits their students would receive.

“We are doing this to promote and advertise how important the Anchor milk is. It is a milk brand that is known all over the world because it’s good not only for the health and bodies of children but for adults as well.”

With the possibility that many children would enter, there was the question about whether there were enough supplies of empty milk cartons for children to utilise in their creations which might put pressure on families to buy extra milk to meet the demand. 

However Principal Masse Tupou did not anticipate any problems with milk carton supplies.

 “I know that there’s nothing hard about finding this milk brand because you can find it in every shop and that’s because most families prefer Anchor Milk. It will not be hard for our community to come together and support the children by collecting them for us.”

Yesterday the Anchor/Ah Liki marketing team managed to promote and distribute cartons of milk to Mulifanua, Satapuala, Matautu, Salailua and Lalomanu Primary Schools where they received positive responses from the school community and they will continue to reach out to more schools until the end of September when their active promotion campaign comes to an end. 

The deadline for the final entries is 6th of October 2017.
