Settling in made harder by lack of water and electricity
Relocation is never easy.
Ask Jerry Atinae, 28, of Faleasiu-uta and he will tell you all about it.
Not having electricity and water makes things even more challenging especially you have returned from living overseas.
Jerry and his wife recently moved from Australia to settle in Samoa. It’s a tough start without water and electricity.
“We’ve decided to come to Samoa to settle here,” said Jerry.
“It’s a huge step because leaving our lives back home is hard. If I have to compare life in Australia and Samoa, there is a huge difference in it
“At the moment, we are still in the process of adapting.”
They can handle most things but not having water.
“At this stage of time, we are so desperate to have a water tank.”
“We really need water; we can live without electricity but without water I doubt it.”
It’s not just for basic needs. With their plan to start a plantation, they need to water their crops.
“As you can see on that side, we cleared all the dead trees but replace it with taro and bundle of peas. So not only that we need water but our crops need it too.”
“To be honest, it’s a struggle living life without water.”
Jerry said their long term goal is to get water to the house.
As for electricity, they are happy to use lanterns at night.
