Nothing comes easy in life. Sam Tau, of Leauva’a, knows this is true.

A 33-year-old farmer, Sam was spotted yesterday on his way to do some shopping for Sunday’s to’onai.

“This is the reality of life,” he said, “if we don’t work, we don’t have any money, it’s simple as that.”

“And if we don’t work, that leads us to a situation where we have nothing to depend on to take care of our families.”

“The plantation is what I have for my family and I have a big family. But the good thing is that there are other working people as well,” said Sam.

“I mean I only earn about a hundred tala or more every week from selling my crops; it’s enough for me but then we also have to consider the need to contribute to family, village and church obligations.”

“It’s a lot but such is life and eventually we will get use to it,” he said.

Sam works on his plantation from Mondays to Thursdays and then on Fridays and Saturdays; he sells crops at the Fugalei Market.

Sam is not yet married but knows the difficulties of life.

“I am trying to make something good for myself and the future before getting into something like that. Planning to have a family is a huge step so that’s why I’m not ready yet for one.”

“Not forgetting the cost of living is expensive these days. But for me, I think that’s the only thing to do to survive is; work with honesty and work hard.”

“There’s no other way for an easier life but that. So if you think you need money; welcome yourself to the working world.”
