Amefo Vaifalevei is a hardworking man. He is single.

In the hot sun yesterday, he was walking down the road at Leauva’a toting coconuts back home.

He lives with his siblings and their children.

Mr. Vaifalevei has no wife or children of his own to worry about.

But the hard-working 40 year-old cares and provides for what he calls his core family.

The work Mr. Vailefalevai does mainly goes towards supporting his siblings and their children.

“I prefer taking care of the core family, I live with my siblings and the work I do supports their children,” he said.

“I have no wife and no children. I am still waiting for the Lord to bless me with a wife,” joked Mr. Vaifalevei.

The Leauva’a local often works a number of different jobs so he can continue to provide a reliable amount of food for his family, which consists of seven family members.

He also generates an income from his work which he devotes to his family as well.

“The plantation is where I work, but I do as much as I can to get food for the children or money to go towards the cost of living, besides this I sometimes resort to the sea and go fishing.”

When asked about his life in Leauva’a, Mr. Vaifalevei said that he was content with his situation and that everything was fine.

“We are getting by just fine, we have access to water and electricity at home, but cost of living is the problem.”

Before continuing with his work, Mr. Vaifalevei noted the hardship felt by a number of families in the area and suggested the government step in and find a way to make life easier for people in the village.

“It’s something the government needs to look into because it is so expensive to have the basic needs of our family met.”
