A one-stop shop for glasses and spectacles and has onsite eye-test facilities has opened at Moto’otua.

Mālō Mata, which in Samoan language literally means ‘hello glasses’, is offering top-of-the-shelf products to customers and is strategically located within the vicinity of the hospital.

Speaking with the Samoa Observer, assistant manager Luisa Yue said said her uncle named the shop Mālō Mata and they sell genuine products, which is why their prices were expensive.

“In Samoa we hardly see frames and different kinds of glasses and there’s only one shop that I have seen sell real glasses and that is the one at Nia Mall.

We went there and we saw different kinds of glasses there and so we thought that this would be a good business and we decided to put up the business here because it’s close to the hospital,” she said. 

“We have an employee here Aliang Su he does the testing and we have machines at the back that does all of these. We also do shaping as well and customers can come in and tell us what kind of shaping they want their glasses to be.”

Price comes with quality for high-end products such as glasses and spectacles with Luisa indicating that their lowest price is $39. “Our prices are expensive and the cheapest sun glasses is $39 and the reason why it’s expensive it’s because the qualities are better than the other ones that’s been sold in other shops.

These are the real ones, I mean the lenses as well as the metal part of the glasses they are real and you can easily tell the difference between real glasses and cheap ones too because the real ones are heavy and the cheap ones are light.”

She said they get most of their products from China as well as Australia and even cater for children.

“A lot of people they come and say these are the glasses that have been sold in China for cheap prices and yet we bring them here and increase the prices. But they don’t know that these brands are very expensive in China and Australia and yet we are so lucky to have them at this price.”
