The Land Transport Authority has cautioned members of the public against travelling through the Fugalei area.

The caution is issued following a night of heavy rain which resulted in flooding in some key areas around the Fugalei market.

This morning, the L.T.A advised drivers to avoid the area until the flooding dies down.

“If possible, please avoid travelling into town until most flooded areas in town has cleared up,” a notice from the L.T.A says.

“Fonofou Street (road from Farmer Joes, Fugalei and crosses in front of Fugalei market until traffic lights near Pat Ah Him) is highly flooded so no cars can go through.

“Fugalei Street (from Vaimoso traffic lights until old Treasure Garden)- cars can go through but difficult for small cars.”

The Met Office has issued a heavy rain warning for Samoa for today and tomorrow when the country welcomes the New Year.
