David raises issue of safety at Moata’a
David Niumata of Moata’a is a grateful man.
Niumata works at the Apia Park Stadium as a security officer and collects entry fees at the gate for people who attend the rugby games.
“It’s good money for me,” he said.
“I live alone and I’m not complaining. I shouldn’t complain because I am in this position because of me.”
Niumata said, while their village has benefitted from having many developments nearby – including the five star Taumeasina Resort - the issue now is the busy traffic.
“The guests and everyone who comes to the hotel, they don’t know how to slow down. The road has many potholes but that does not slow down the vehicles, yet there are families near the main road,” he said.
“We have to deal with the dust, at the same time, worried about the children in the area. It’s like people are racing to the hotel.”
Last week, the road was fixed and it’s even worse now.
“The Ministry of Police should come and utilise their speeding scanner here and I’m sure they will be issuing numerous of traffic citations, because it’s annoying,” he said.
“It’s like watching movies, of speeding cars, passing in front of our houses.”
According to Niumata, people should be aware that the road is on the village land and it’s a residential area.
“We can’t blame the Hotel, they are not the ones driving the vehicles, but the public need to have some common sense that this is a residential area.
“We have young children walking around.”
Back to Niumata, he is single and lives life to the fullest.
“It’s good being single I don’t have to explain myself to anyone.
“Unlike my friends, they argue with their wives when they come home late.
“Me I don’t have to go through that and I am happy.
“My sister takes care of my food and everything when I get home, but even she doesn’t bother me.”
