Couple on world tour love “colourful” Samoa

Andrew and Andrea Glendinning are on a world trip before they welcome their first born.

They have been married for four years and are expecting their baby by the end of August.

Before visiting Samoa’s shores, they were in Kerela, South India.

“The path of life and everything is very similar,” Andrea said.

They are originally from Northern Ireland but now live in New Zealand.

The two decided two years ago to migrate to New Zealand, which also gave them a perfect opportunity to travel the Pacific region.

“We are trying to visit some of the islands in this area,” Andrea said.

“Samoa is probably going to be once in a lifetime.

“We have never been on this side of the world before, so when we moved to New Zealand, we wanted to come and see the South Pacific. It is lovely when living for a time in New Zealand to come and visit this part.”

In terms of other visits in the Pacific, they have been to Tahiti.

“I think coming to Samoa is a very different experience. It is more laid back, slower, rustier and more original. Tahiti is touristy and more expensive. We are big fans of adventure so it seems to be the right place for us,” Andrew explained.

Dear Tourist met the lovely couple on their first walk through the town market.

Andrew and Andrea arrived last week Saturday and on Wednesday they rented a car and drove to Lalomanu Beach.

“It is beautiful; the colours have been very nice. There were so many corals,” Andrea said.

“We went snorkeling and saw turtles, which was really nice,” Andrew added.

They leave next week Wednesday, but they hope to do a little more exploring before they depart.

“It has been really good, we are hoping to go to Savai’i for a few days,” Andrea said.

One of the issues they saw, which would have made their stay more memorable was the language.

“I would say the people here are very friendly. In Tahiti, they were lovely; I could speak a little bit of French so that was easier for me to communicate. The English here is pretty good, but I guess if I would speak Samoan I would have a better report.”

“I couldn’t say anything specific to change about the tourism sector here, so I like the way it is now, it’s good,” Andrew said.

They are staying at the Return to Paradise Resort, about an hour’s drive from town.

They plan to return to Northern Ireland after Andrea gives birth.

“We would like to come back, but we want to explore other places too,” Andrea said.
