What do they get?

Re: Remittances and Samoa

So the government is happy to clip the ticket on remittances in all respects, but what do they return in appreciation to our people abroad?

Do they promise to protect their land from corruption and errors of the law within the Courts? Do they promise not to use our land as collateral to the Asian loan sharks? Do they allow our people “free and expert’ medical care?

Do they allow remittances sent direct to bank accounts without huge fees to transfer? Do they advise caps on fa’alavelave’s so the funerals don’t burden our families both in Samoa and living abroad?

Do they offer our people traveling from abroad discounted airfares?

Do they make all cash donations for village affairs accountable? Do they provide all our children with the opportunity of a safe and stimulating school environment reflective of schools in NZ and Australia?

Our people can’t wait to get out of Samoa to get a “fair and safe life of prosperity” and yet foreigners are scrambling to Samoa for a prosperous life in our paradise, and we as their slaves, are the providers of that.
