Prime Minister, Tuilaepa Sa’ilele Malielegaoi, says he is not only satisfied with the performance of the Manu Samoa Sevens, he is also pleased with the selection of players. His satisfaction was made evident during his speech at the official launching of the XXVIII Vailima Marist Samoa International Sevens Programme, which starts February 19.

“I [was] so happy when I saw our new sevens team are putting all their best in the tournament,” he said. “Looking at this team makes [me] think that the management might have been interfering with the choosing of the team in the past years.

“I always ask the management back in the days what was wrong with the team and they always tell me that it’s the new players and that is the reason why they keep taking the old players, because they can play.

“[But] when I watched the games I see that the old players are the ones with no guts, they kept passing the ball but they don’t run. So I am very happy with the selection of our new team that we have right now.”

He urged the Sevens to keep making Samoa proud. “My only advice to the boys is to watch out for the time,” he said. “When you see that the time is up then kick the ball out because that will result with the other team [scoring] a try. “[But] I am very proud of our boys, I can see that they really want this and they really want to win this tournament.”
