Take heart La’auliolemalietoa Lupesoliai Joseph Parker: God is with you.

That was the message from a special prayer service for Parker on Sunday.

The Matafele Methodist Church on Sunday evening was filled with Cabinet Ministers, representatives of the Samoa Association of Sports and National Olympic Community and supporters of Parker.

Despite the different religions each person gathered for one cause only and that was to uplift the son of Samoa in prayer.

Prime Minister Tuilaepa Sa’ilele Malielegaoi spoke.

“This is our belief which we testify that if God is for us who will come against us. The truth is there is no prayer that is wasted. God hears our pleading. We search through the scriptures where we draw our strength from.

“The heart of the sermon today was signifying the power of prayer. A prayer that is coming from a place that is honest and true.

“With God by our side there is nothing that we will not be able to do.”

He also took it back into history about how strong the British Empire was and that Samoa is a small country compared to Great Britain that had ruled the whole world.

They had colonized many countries in the world in the past and yet we now have a young Samoan fighter that has challenged a British fighter.

“We have never thought that this would be the time that one of our own would come up against a heavy weight champion from Great Britain, while everyone in the world will be clapping and watching.

“This is the main event of boxing in the world.

He explained: “In my own opinion there is no difference with games that were taken place in the old Roman times when the world was under their control.

“Their well-known field where the bravest warriors were to compete against the other, and they were under slavery. The only difference was that they had to fight till death. If you make it out alive from the first round then you would die in the next competition.

“It is no difference from David and Goliath. David said you come to me using your sword, spear and javelin but I come to you in the name of the all powerful Lord. God has directed every move that has led Goliath to be defeated.

“This is a reminder to all of us that God hears our prayer.”
