The ‘globe death riders’ will be one of the main attractions at the Magic Circus of Samoa show.

Stunt woman Yudi Serna Rodriguez, her husband Sebastian Moreno Delgado from Colombia, and Brazilian Gilberto Sulgueiro from Brazil will ride their motorcycles in a 15-foot diamanté with speeds up to 70 km an hour.

Sebastian and Gilberto are professional globe death riders and Yudi is one of only few women in the world who does the globe death riding stunt in her own style.

“Yudi is one of the only women in the world that rides like she does in the globe of death. There are a few others that ride but only around the button without doing the hard stuff over the top,” the circus ringmaster Tupa’i Frank Bruno told Samoa Observer in an interview.

Gilberto has been riding since he was 12 and Yudi and Sebastian for the last two years. The team trains up to six hours a day and will perform for the first time together on new bikes.

For Gilberto riding the globe of death runs in his family’s blood as he is a fifth generation rider.

“You have to be 100 per cent in the show. In the beginning to go in the globe is very scary because you feel dizzy and don’t see clearly just like shadows. With the horn we know someone is going to stop and we pay more attention, because we are so fast to react in time,” he said.

“You can hurt yourself so badly I broke my ankle, ribs and collarbone but the time you start to enjoy this is the passion. You get so much experience you know now the bikes it is almost like a mechanic. With the experience coming each time the fear fades.”

For Yudi and Sebastian, who have been together for four years, it is their first time in Samoa.

“The experience here in Samoa is quite different, I like it here it is the first time for me on the island it is a special place,” Yudi said.

For Sebastian, Samoa is different from Colombia and the way of life and culture are different.

“Samoa is very beautiful I didn’t know it before but just in the time I spent here the culture makes it how it is like the people. It is very different from Colombia way smaller obviously. The way of living and the culture are very different.”
