A project that will help people

Dear Editor,

Re: Samoa’s $131m project approved

My congratulations to all those who were involved in getting this very important global funding organisation to Samoa.

It certainly helped with getting this huge funding proposal over the line.

The first thing the organisers did was to take the organisation on a physical tour of the Vaisigano river area and various other areas in the Apia waterfront.

The projects that this funding has been approved for will be life-saving for the vulnerable people living along the Vaisigano river.

This funding is by no means automatic. Samoa (along with every other affected country in the world) had to compete for this funding.

They had to put together a compelling case and advocate hard to get the funding approved. However, the government went a step further and actually managed to persuade the Green Climate Fund to actually host their meeting in Apia.

This is one clear example where the government has truly come through for it’s people. It is a massive grant and it will improve people’s lives in the Vaisigano river area as well as help protect the economy from the shock of cyclones and the flooding that it may cause.
