Fashion designers China bound

Thirty-two Samoan fashion and garment designers are on their way to China to learn more about the garment industry there.

They are heading to Hunan Province for a two week-seminar where they will visit many Chinese garment companies and learn from their Chinese counterparts.

On Friday, China’s Ambassador to Samoa, Wang Xuefeng hosted a farewell reception for the participants.

Some of the more prominent names include Cecilia Keil of Cecilia’s Fashion, Dane Fabricius, Rupi Taituuga and many more.

Mr. Wang said China’s hope is to help the Samoan fashion and garment industry become more competitive.

“We want to help our Samoan friends to improve their ability in this field,” he said.

He went on to say that the seminar has three features.

“The first one is that this is the biggest group the Embassy has organised.”

“Secondly the time of the training is good because it’s not long nor it is short because we know that some fashion designers cannot leave Samoa for too long hence why it’s just two weeks.”

Thirdly, the programme has been strictly catered for the needs of the participants and what is relevant to their work in Samoa.

“You will learn the tools and ideas about the import and export trade of the garment industry in China.

You will have the opportunity to look into retail and wholesale situations which will help you.”

“You will also exchange wisdom, leadership in the business industry of international business in the market in one of the city on the east side of China.”

Mr. Wang concluded that he is looking forward to many great stories from the visitors as well as how their trip will impact and grow the Samoa fashion and garment industry.
