Team gets support of Head of State

The Head of State of Samoa Tuimalealiifano Vaaletoa Sualauvi II has got behind the Manu Samoa team and urged them to give their best.

The team take on Germany today in a World Cup qualifier and have come under a lot of scrutiny in recent months over their poor form.

But His Highness believes the team can find inspiration in the Book of Samuel on how a deer survives in the wild and defends itself against its enemies.

“The book of Samuel states it is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect. He makes my feet like the feet of the deer. He enables me to stand on heights. He trains my hands or battle. My arms can bend a bow with bronze. You give me your shield of victory. You stoop down to make me great,” he said.

“When I read this last night, maybe it was applicable to the Manu Samoa rugby team. I know that most of you have seen what a deer looks like. They say that the weapon of the deer is its horns to fight off its enemies.”

He said the players were ambassadors of the nation and he was confident that they will be victorious when they locked horns with Germany today.

“I know and believe that we will win tomorrow; we should be patient and know that you are ready for the game and the upcoming match in Germany. Yesterday I saw the German team and I was not afraid because there were not many of them but I feel a bit scared that there are so many of you here today.”
