The joy of having your first child
No one understands the shift in priorities until you actually have a child.
Twenty seven year old Saega Samuelu now understands this.
Saega of Faleasiu and Tuanai officially became a father on Sunday this week when his wife gave birth to their first child.
“I’m a happy man and you caught me here while I was on my way back home from doing some shopping for my family,” he tells the Village Voice team.
“The feeling of having a baby, I mean having a new born baby in the family just sort of changes a lot of things for you.
“It changes your behavior, the environment you’re living in especially your priorities.”
Saega works at S.M.I. Hardware at Fugalei and he’s on leave to spend some quality time with his wife and child.
“I’m glad that my child came into my life and I still have a job because we all know that once you have children, we always need the money to take care of them.
He went on “Honestly, before I came to have this blessing in my life; I still acted like I was still a teenager.
“I mean even with a wife, I still spent money on things that I thought matters to me and never once have thought to be prepared for the future.
“I know that’s the same thing for everyone else before they become parents and I guess having a family now, has put me to my senses.
“I have to work for my family because that’s the only way to deal with the high cost of living.
“Your future and the future of your family depends on you and how you work.
“My family is now my main priority and I will work hard to provide for them and willing to go the extra mile to get what they need to survive.”
