The democratic dictatorship

Dear Editor,

Re: Please maintain the balance of power

Sorry my friend but the three branches of government has long been re-engineered as the former M.P. Tole’afoa Afamasaga Faamatala puts it, under the one supreme authority of the executive branch, which is the P.M. and the ruling H.R.P.P. party.

Any accountability or transparency is long lost through the manipulation of laws to make the judiciary branch as nothing but the mouthpiece of the executive branch.

The third branch as you mentioned, the Legislative or Parliament are all driving 4WD’s bought with our money by the executive hand.

The 3-delegate branch of government is just a model in our imagination. Thriving democracies are like you see in N.Z. and Aus where leaders change hands every now and then which is a sign of health, as any signs of re-engineering is checked by the new administration.

Not the case with the malo pipo. We are a dictatorship operating as a Democracy only in the paperwork. There is no Judiciary and Legislative branch. They are just subsets of the executive branch.
