Samoan rugby’s problem

Dear Editor,

Re: Manu Samoa Sevens winless in Wellington

I listened to Sir Gordon Tietjens’ interview after the win against Russia.

A few things concerned me:

(1) The P.M. was in the Samoan sevens players locker room before the game. He is a bad influence around any Samoa team. What is the P.M. doing in Wellington NZ anyway?

(2) Tietjens mentioned that the mission given to him by P.M. is to discover and develop the local talent in Samoa.

If that is his mission then we have no hope. Shouldn’t his mission be to make Samoa number 1 again no matter where the players come from?

As long as they are Samoans and eligible then put them in. Ever since P.M. has taken over the Samoa Rugby Union the rankings have slid downhill. Even not making the Olympics sevens.

As long as P.M. leader of the Samoa Rugby Union we have no hope. Why? Because he interferes with the administration and selection process!

By the way congratulations to Canada Sevens team coached by Damian McGrath. They made the semi-final and gave South Africa a scare before losing to the eventual winners of the Wellington Sevens tournament.
