The informal talks so far

Dear Editor,

Re: They are people who have emotions and feelings too.

What has happened so far is a lot of informal talks between individual matai, including Ulugia himself, and the M.P. and other officials.

There is absolutely no point in formally talking to the village (Vaiusu) until there are actually concrete plans to put to the village. At the moment, the investigations are going on and research being undertaken.

Until those things are done (and these will take at least 2 years in my amateur estimation) then there is nothing to talk about. The first question the village council will ask is whose lands will be affected?

If there is no answer to that question at the moment, then there is no point in meeting the village.

I strongly suspect the government has no answer to that at the moment because the research into the project still hasn’t been completed yet.

So what is the point of going to the village when there is nothing of real detail to put to them?

The village will think you’re playing games with them.
