There is no place like home.

Ask Hunt Barry and he is happy to tell you.

Visiting family, friends and to be able to witness his mother’s 92nd birthday is the ultimate reason for his return to his motherland.

According to Hunt, being here with family is the essence of the culture of Samoa and he is happy to be home to once again and feel family closeness that he has been missing out on in a very long time.

Hunt believes that it is the connection you have with your relatives that will keep us going no matter what, it is not money but family.

He believes everyone is connected despite not being related, for instance the people from your village.

After years of not being home, Hunt is not very familiar of what home looks like and of how so much has changed in his village of Lotofagā, because of the many changes over the years.

Miles away from home for 42 years, for Hunt, has been an eye opener.

And the challenges he has faced living in the United States has made him appreciate his motherland, in terms of its simple way of living.

“I think it is the simplicity of the way of life here in Samoa that I miss the most,” he said.

“For me working in the U.S. for 20 to 30 years now it has been a challenge because if you do not hustle then you cannot survive.”

The 53-year-old even said within the United States you just hustle every day and you were out there trying to earn a living.

Talking to Dear Tourist, he spoke about how fast everything worked in America and you would need to work extra hard every time or else you would end up living under the freeway.

But back in Samoa, it is relaxing he is thrilled to be back.

He is already making plans to retire in Samoa so he can continue to enjoy the company of his loved ones. He said cannot wait.
