Public servants leads the way
Healthy living begins with the public service.
And so to end the National Health Week, all government ministries took half a day off to promote the importance of physical exercises during a Sports Day organised by the Ministry of Health.
The event, held at Apia Park saw government employees came out in their sports gears to promote and support healthy living in Samoa.
Associate Minister of Health, Salausa Dr. John Ah Ching, was among them.
“This year is the 19th year that the Ministry of Health has been conducting such an important event,” he said.
“It is very important to urge all government employees to stay healthy and encourage them to exercise because we have seen most of them have gained a lot of weight.”
Employees of the various ministries mingled throughout the event and showed great enthusiasm in promoting fitness and health.
But it is not just physical exercises on the agenda.
“The ministry is planning to carry out a national environment clean up day targeting Apia where rubbish is seen,” said Salausa. “This will decrease the number of dengue fever cases that is on the rise. ”
He could not recall the percentage dengue fever cases that have been reported by the ministry.
“What I do know is that the Ministry of Health is not sitting back and relaxing but they are taking actions accordingly.”
